In honor of the University of South Carolina's Parents Weekend being this weekend, we put together a fun list of things to do around town as a family.

1. Watch the game against UCF on Saturday
Before the game, come by the Cromer's tailgate on Gamecock Walk between 8 am. and 11:30 a.m. Come enjoy coffee, breakfast corndogs, hot dogs and regular corndogs.

2. Alduh Flour
Adluh Flour Mills produces flour and cornmeal products in a plant that is listed on the National Register of Historic Properties. In 1942 there were 42 operating mills located in South Carolina. Today only one of these remains-Adluh Flour Mills in Columbia. 

3. Riverwalk 
Grab a cup a coffee and some popcorn or peanuts and take a stroll down the famous West Columbia Riverwalk. The West Columbia Riverwalk, 4.5 acres of the Three Rivers Greenway, is located between Gervais Street and Knox Abbott Drive running along. Its half-mile path accommodates all levels of physical access including baby carriages and wheelchairs.

4. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to more than 2,000 magnificent and fascinating animals and one of the nation's most beautiful and inspiring botanical gardens.

5. South Carolina State House
Strategically centered in downtown Columbia, the South Carolina State House is the seat of state government in South Carolina.  The State House is home to the Governor's office, as well as the House and Senate chambers. Free guided and self-guided tours of the State House are available Monday - Friday. 

6. Columbia Museum of Art
With dynamic exhibitions and fun programs, the CMA is redefining the modern museum as the bustling social hub of our community. Exciting national exhibitions cycle through every few months, so there’s always a new reason to visit the museum. Many of our programs are offered for free, and our collection is one of the most comprehensive and eclectic in the region.

7. EdVenture
EdVenture’s mission is to inspire children, youth, and the adults who care about them to experience the joy of learning. Behind EdVenture’s doors, we are proud to have eight world-class exhibit galleries, a library, learning laboratories, resource centers and other visitor amenities. Two additional outdoor gallery spaces are located just outside the museum’s front doors. Within the total 92,000 square feet that is EdVenture Children’s Museum, there are more than 350 individual hands-on exhibits.

8. South Carolina Military Museum
Featuring a vast array of authentic and period firearms, edged weapons, uniforms, helmets, artillery pieces, and armored fighting vehicles, both buildings of the South Carolina Military Museum trace the evolution of the citizen-soldier from the earliest militias to their modern descendants: the South Carolina National Guard.  In so doing, the Museum covers the complete military history of our State from the time British boots first touched Carolina soil to present-day operations worldwide.

9. Vista
The heart of the city is the Vista. With restaurants, bars, galleries, professional services, shops and more, this is place you can't miss while you're in Columbia.

10. Main Street
Downtown Columbia is home to some of the best restaurants in the Southeast. You can also enjoy live jazz and blues music nightly at Mac’s On Main as well as talented musicians playing at Jammin Java. So the next time you’re trying to decide where to go for a night on the town, visit downtown Columbia. You can have a nice dinner, visit the art museum, and listen to live blues and jazz music...all in one evening!
